I like it on by default too but understand why it is off for now. There
are some issues with its implementation (which have been illustrated
previously). I just have learned to save very very frequently and version
my tracks.
Ableton uses the auto save and undo together. If a crash occurs, the auto
save brings you to your last "undo".
I'm ok with on or off. On might help ease of frequent crashes for the
newcomers, although crashing is something that may have improved in recent
versions.
