It's not a fallacy at all. Linux as we know it was started from a free
MINIX kernel without a GUI. XFree86 "port" came shortly after. Just
because X originated before Linux, doesn't make statements about Linux's
reliance and culture around a terminal any less true. I'm not saying it's
a bad thing, I'm just saying most things in Linux can be done by terminal
and if lucky have a graphical equivalent. Windows has shifted in the
opposite direction, except with the exception of the new Core Servers.
Back in the 90s... ... Microsoft was more known for MS-DOS than it was for

To be fair, they bought DOS, and they came out with Micrsoft Mouse in the
80s, Word, Works, all centralized around a mouse. :)
