The 2.4.0 one in 1.0.0 is pretty old, close to 5 years. My guess is this alone would make it a strong candidate for an exception to that rule. And in master/1.1 it looks to me like LMMS uses the sources quite deeply at build time. That might be something you can't do with a dev package.
