That's precisely what I've been crawling the internet for to no avail.
Seems quite greedy for CMake to consume both the "%VARS%" and the "${VARS}"
on a CONFIGURE_FILE.  This makes it quite difficult to for any similar
syntax variable scripting languages (i.e shell scripts) to use dynamic
configuration.  In some cases I had to revert to non-ideal syntax to
prevent variable replacement.

CMake's site warns that this default warn scenario is replaced with a hard
error in newer versions, so I hate leaving a time bomb lying around. :)

I'll keep reading.
