I don't think there's any personal attachments or significant meaning to
the font used, although in its current form it certainly makes the product
name clear and concise.

When we were finalizing the splash screen, IIRC, Toby requested a sans font
that was similar to one of the mockups and no one objected.

We had quite a few submissions, some of which took a more stylistic
approach with the font (

)

The winner of the splash screen had several mockups, one used a font that
was very styled as well. (

)

In the end we took a much simpler approach and focused our efforts on the
logo, while keeping the font a basic sans font.

If Mark has other ideas he's welcome to submit them, I just hope you
understand that he is a bit late to the game, so change would be harder now
than if it were submitted during the time of rebranding. i.e. The efforts
involved in changing an already accepted and working splash screen (since
that's the only place this font is used) are already a vote against his
work before we see it.

I would ask that if Mark is interested in branding, to have him reach out
to Vesa (i.e. this list) and offer his help. We have some internal
software elements that need a facelift since 0.4.x, and those changes would
immediately benefit the software.
