Hi,

yeah, taking just the maximum amplitude into account is a far better,
more reliable and more performant approach! The only thing to possibly
care about is backward compatibility so existing gate knob settings
should behave somewhat similar.

We could also change the gate knob to a (logarithmic) volume knob
where you can specify the minimum gate threshold/level in dB which
would be the most intuitive solution. A rudimentary calculation could
convert existing gate settings to the new dB-based threshold.
