After some mail exchange with the holders of lmms.org, it's unfortunately
not possible for us to use that domain. Discussions about a new name have
died several times, so I doubt we're gonna change it.
So, the final question was and is now: lmms-project.org or lmms.io?
lmms-project.org is easy to remember, but a bit long. .org is extremely
common amongst open source projects.
lmms.io is the shortest it can get, so it should be easy to remember as
well. .io is quite trendy, it gets more and more common amongst geeks, as
IO is also short for input/output. In our context, I see IO also as the
users' input/output, their exchange on the LSP. .io could be a bit uncommon
amongst non-geeks, but I don't think that's a problem, as it is so easy to
remember.
I think a lot already said they'd prefer lmms-project.org. Nevertheless, as
the domain discussion got quite scattered, I'd like to ask everyone to vote
here one last time so that I can count the votes properly. ;-)
I have already collected information about the prices, but I purposely hold
it back until there is a decision. It should be no problem paying either of
them. I suggest picking the domain we like the most, and then talk about
money. If we choose the more expensive one and we do in fact have problems
collecting the money, we can still go back to the cheaper one.
