It may be struggling to gain resources back from your sound card. This Kay be a bug. I would suggest doing further research on Windows XP power settings and submitting a bug report once you discover the setting that triggers this. Of the software can disable this power saving feature while it is running (a proprietary is hook) that may be feasible. If not, we will need to debug the exaxt same behavior on an OS while allows debugging.
