If you have 10 controls you're automating throughout the song, dividing them on automation tracks with one control/track should only increase maintainability and readability, since it will be much, much easier to see what automates what. Per-track automation is something that just has to be done. I don't think there is even any other DAW that handles automations the way we do now - almost all other DAWs have one connection for one automation track. So it's not like this is something out of ordinary.
