BTW LMMS already allows you to control the pan for each note in the
Piano Editor (at bottom).
This GUI aligns the vol and PAN controls with each note. So there is
no guesswork.

The automation track is for slower variations of controls spanning
several measures.

If the automation track shows the notes, they would be packed too
densely because each measure is barely 5 mm wide.

I may have misunderstood your suggestion, though.
