You're right, we need to do something about this. My suggestion is to renew all the note icons (note*.png) at the same time to give them a fresh and modern look (and not that comic-like). Anyone who wants to contribute here? Once we have the new icons it should be easy to make a nice chord icon as well as a scale icon.
