I would recommend a placeholder LMMS Soundcloud page. Perhaps called Best
Of LMMS.

would be tricky since the tracks are public, may have previous "likes" and
shared elsewhere but its not a terrible solution in my opinion. Popularity
should really rule and a final team (I'd like to be on this team if
possible) picks from the top 50, etc.
Rules are important, and funds to get the album mastered and published may
also be a good idea.
The remix competition sites do this stuff all the time so they may be a
good baseline for comparison. In this case though, its important for the
author to submit his/her own tracks while giving permission for it to be
placed on an album and distributed with whatever transferred rights decided
upon that come along with being on a compilation album owned and
distributed by a 3rd party.
