You can create a template!
Create a project and delete all the tracks you don't want, then save it as template (.mpt). If it doesn't save it as mpt, but as a normal mmpz (it does it to me), then just rename it, I think it should be good. Then, you have to create a new directory in your main directory (the first directory in the setting), calling it "templates". Restart LMMS, now you should see the template in the second icon at top left (next to the "new project" icon).

If you are on windows, you may just go here: C:\Program Files\LMMS\data\projects\templates (or similar folder) and place you mtp there. I don't know what's the directory on linux.
