Ah, this is probably the bit I've been missing: that LMMS is not meant for live play. I've been assuming it was, based on my experience with other samplers. If lmms isn't ready for live play yet, then I'll have to wait until it is. >> Exporting isn't an option because I'm not using the Song Editor. > > > But why? I reckon that combining audiofiles in Audacity or some other > free program shouldn't be a big problem for you. So the question is, why don't > you "use" the Song Editor? It's not so simple. If I export a Musescore score as .mid then import it into lmms, every instrument is simply "sf2 player". I'd have to load the sf2's for every one of 32 instruments, as well as adding needed effects--again, for each instrument. And, of course, the changes don't survive subsequent exports/imports, so I'd have to repeat the process every time I made a change to the score (which, during composition, might be hundreds of times). I'm not lazy, but that would be an insane amount of work. Ultimately not worth it, because I absolutely need live playback in order to test dynamics in the score, tweak balances, adjust equalizations, etc. I'm guessing LMMS was targetted from the beginning toward composers who want to lay down midi tracks, not composers who write scores. Unfortunately, I'm in the latter category. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it would be to write complex counterpoint using the Song Editor, plus there'd be no score or parts for real musicians to play from. -- Peter Schaffter http://www.schaffter.ca ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Slashdot TV.
