Hi Tim,

I had it happen two times today but couldn't narrow it to a particular
song or scenario. I'll send a song file if I can make it reproduce the
behavior reliably.

Yes it's ALSA only without Jack running on a 32bit single-core machine.
The one thing I noticed was that cpu usage increases during a song and
builds up until the end. But I'm not sure if this has something to do
with it.

BTW: Your effort is really appreciated and the new preferences you
added work perfectly.
