Shorter true, but in this case we're talking about single notes 
 here and there, pressed one-at-a-time, not whole sequences.

Shorter definitely matters in a midi file, which is why we have the
 Settings option for using zero-velocity note-ons when exporting.

In the end, I reasoned that pressing a piano keyboard item, or drawing
 a note, now does exactly the same thing as pressing a key on the
 hardware musical keyboard or playing a note on the canvas - 
 which has always sent note-on followed by note-off.
So there's really no difference between these scenarios now.
