Yes, I had wanted to put something there, more than just a 'ribbon'.

I removed the slider thumbs (actually it's a one-pixel wide line).
That was so the scale numbers can be seen clearly on top of what
 is now just a slider trough 'ribbon' (no thumb).

We could go with a normal sized thumb as long as the numbers 
 could be seen clearly on top of it. I've been trying to work that out.

Or, no thumb but a 'pointer indicator' (triangle or arrow etc).
I had been racking my brains trying to figure out where to put
 such an indicator. I know the best place is likely just to the right
 of the purple 'ribbon' extending a bit onto the actual scale 
 as I think Jens is saying.

I was actually reluctant to do a 'pointer' because due to rounding
 errors, drawing inaccuracies and so on, the actual slider pointer 
 tip might not point exactly on a scale marking, for a given value.
In theory we should be able to make it right. In practice maybe harder.
