I did a quick test with the git master version and with the mda piano
plugin it seemed to behave as expected so I think we need some more
information.
MusE version and what plugin you were using, native or windows version?
And maybe a few words on how you make the assign?

I assigned by opening the plugin gui (the muse version of the gui which
looks plain with only sliders) and right clicked on the parameter I wanted
and selected assign.
