Hi Cor, Henk, Rafaella and everyone who is working on translation or
just following what is going on here.
At the moment the volunteers working on the Dutch translation are
unhappy. This is not the first time they express these feelings and
every time it all comes back to differences in expectations. Volunteers
often don't know what it is Sun expects from us and the volunteers have
of had other expectations about the work from Sun.
Before we start a discussion about the details, we need a new volunteer
to lead this project. This person needs to be someone who knows the
project, has time to coordinate the project and has a basic
understanding about how a big company like Sun works and why it is so
difficult for big organizations like Sun to work together (or even
better participate) in a volunteer driven project.
The first task of the new coordinator will be to start the discussion
with Sun AND the volunteer to get a clear picture of who is going to do
what, when and how. Maybe we even want to have a short term and long
term goal for this project.
To Cor and Henk: "Thank you for making me write this mail!".
Working with volunteers on this project is definitely the best way to
get a decent Dutch version of OpenOffice.org. There is definitely enough
room for improvement :)
