Dear All:

This week the Venezuela LoCo team had very productive week at the
expotecnologica held at the convention isle of a very famous shopping
mall in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela. the invitation came rather
late, so preparations for the event were not very many. The event
gathered the latest trends in technology. Representatives from companies
like Nintendo, Epson and A2 Softway (software development group) offered
services and the different university projects, which gave the event a
very special touch of local talent.

The opportunity came through a national organization GloVE
(www.glove.org.ve) which offered Rolando Blanco, who is the LoCo contact
in Venezuela, the opportunity to participate in the event with a space
at their table to promote Ubuntu. the strategy was simple. the ubuntu-ve
team members that attended had a computer were people could take Ubuntu
for a test run. it proved to be successful. a million words cannot
describe the fuzzy feeling of experiencing something new. It's worth
mentioning that the target crowd of the event was just technology
enthusiasts , not just Linux users, which made the exposure to Ubuntu
and GNU/Linux much more meaningful. We also shared flyers and the GLoVE
group offered UBUNTU cd's to the interested attendees.

The promoting aspect didn't only include the attendees. many of the
exhibitors checked the Software Libre stand and had a look at Ubuntu.
People from a computer learning academy in the region really expressed
their interest in learning more about Free Software and particularly
UBUNTU. They claim to have good reference of the bistro and they offered
to open a space in their academy to foster Ubuntu related courses and to
offer it as community service. so Networking was a added value to the
initial purpose of the participation. What a great opportunity for the
LoCo team indeed.

The overall experience of this event represents a learning curve
for all
of the people from the Venezuela Ubuntu LoCo Team. The acceptance of
Ubuntu amongst people makes one aware of the responsibility of sharing
and empowers one to continue on with the task at hand. it fuels the
Ubuntu Spirit within.
