Neat idea. Some questions I have about it:- * How do you ensure quality? Given it's a one to one service, there is no way of knowing what the helper is saying to the novice. No way for others to step in and "correct" the help as there would be for mailing lists, irc, forums and the answer tracker.
This is completely new for us. We are choosing know Linux users for the "New User" team. All members on the New User support Team are part of the F2F support effort. Time will tell us how to better choose these members. * Who puts up the cost of calls? I note you have a big "donate" button on
your site - does that money go to reimburse people who have spent hours on the phone? Is this not a worry for you due to low-cost/free call plans you may have?
The Donate button is for a different purpose all together (We are trying to raise money for a Linux Fest). Since this email was sent out, we added an email contact in the information the user gives. Calls in the US are not expensive, and in state calling is mostly free. * Do you use traditional phone or VOIP solutions? Depends on the user. I personally use VoIP. * Will you be producing any stats for how many calls you guys make, and to
how many customers and their duration. This could help other locos to decide whether to do this :)
Yes, We are going to be tracking the results of this service. Right now it will be mostly word of mouth. Our marketing team is working on a Press Release which should go out in the next few weeks. Thanks Steve
