Hello everyone!

The Spanish speaking LoCo teams have for some time now been cooperating in
our documentation and translation efforts. New needs and challenges have
arised on the way and I think it's time to point some of these, and
hopefully solve them. Sorry if this a little off-topic.

* Launchpad should have support for other languages, not just english.

>From the Launchpad FAQ: Can I translate Launchpad itself into my language?
Not yet. Launchpad is still in the process of having its templates assembled
and published, and the infrastructure for serving different languages is not
yet ready. When this happens, we'll be sure to make a public announcement
and invite community translators.

We need this to be done. Maybe open sourcing whatever part of Launchpad that
needs to be open sourced for this to happen would help?
Not all of our translators speak english. This is a problem when translating
to local languages (like Spanish -> Quechua or Spanish -> Guarani) since
there is people that know how to translate within these languages,, but do
not speak English enough (or at all) in order to manage to use the interface
marking the spanish translations/suggestions.

* Launchpad should be use as the project and blueprint base for non english
speaking devs and users.

The combination Ubuntu Wiki + Launchpad for project development is
very fruitful
in the english speaking user/dev land. But this power cannot be unleashed
throughout the whole community as long as we don't have a real option. The
wiki offers already to some extent support for other languages, but
launchpad does not. This language gap needs to be covered in order to
include everysingle member of the community and not having their language as
a barrier for achieving this, but rather as a strength to develope and
expand further our communitarian efforts.

The different LoCo Teams worldwide could "supply" help on the translation of
the templates. This would catapult Launchpad to new highs since no-one is
offering such a service (Sourceforge -NO, Google Code - NO, OpenSuse
Building Service -NO) and would differentiate Launchpad even more from the
rest (as it does today when in comes to features)...

After all ubuntu has this wonderful community. I am sure the community would
be up to such a task. I, for one, will.

Will you?

Cheers,

Rubén - Hubuntu
