Martin, I'm not sure, but this sounds like enterprise level training. Possibly the forerunner for Ubuntu Certifications. There is certainly a "comfort zone" for mid-size to large companies who won't adopt anything that they can't get employees who are classroom trained, or better yet certified specialists.
The corporate training and certifications are nice, but do not guarantee a functional employee. But the companies like to see them. And the prices are in line with Microsoft, Novell, Red Hat, and Oracle training courses. How many of your day to day users or small businesses have certified people on staff? How many computer users at a major company have certified employees? Usually it's IT and no one else. So a vast majority of computer users are not the target of this training. So I wouldn't view this as discounting the LoCo efforts, but filling a different (smaller) niche. Advocacy still needs to be done, education on the grass roots level, as well as support for as many people as we can help. That's what we do. Formalized corporate training and prepping for certification exams, is not, I think, what the LoCo Teams are all about.
