What we are doing is leveraging on the success of stackoverflow. We making us more visible in new communities. It is marketing to the biggest extend. The software part in this instance is not important. There are already floss clones that allow you to run similar sites (shapado being one of them).
Also, if you are so concerned about purity, how can you agree to use the new Ubuntu design? It was not developed on floss! Or why would you buy food from a supermarket that does not use floss. Or, why do you agree to use mono, with all its intellectual property issues within Ubuntu. Shouldn't there be a big push to replace all the mono stuff? Let's be real here. We are not a religious organization, that tries to isolate itself in a cult. We need to be out there mingling with people who are not yet part of this community. This is what this is about! > I truly believe that the end doesn't justify the means and, altough I > think that the people that support this initiative does it with good > intentions, I deeply desagree in the way it is going to be done > (mainly in the tool that's going to be used). When we reach out we don't subtract, but we add. We are hopefully bring new people into our fold. For that you have to sometimes go where those people are and pick them up. Simultaneously, we also build up a similar site (http://ubuntu.shapado.com) which runs on floss software (yes I know, some will complain about the afero licence now, but still it is gpl :)). So there is the possibility to transition all those new people to the path of "enlightenment" as well! Hope that reduces your concerns at least a bit :) txwikinger -- loco-contacts mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/loco-contacts
