Please provide some more details about which version of Log4cxx you are using, 
how exactly you are building it regarding UTF8 and wchar_t, about your 
environment where you are seeing this issue, e.g. the locale and charset and 
such of your shell etc. If not already done, try a current SVN head to test if 
this fixes things for your.
