I've added your message to the comments on the logstream bug (https:// 
issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOGCXX-18).  Sounds like a good point  
and should be considered when work is resumed on that feature.   
Perhaps we could end up with a log4cxx::basic_string<T> template with  
a typedef for log4cxx::logstream as log4cxx::basic_string<char>.
