Finally got it working on solaris 9 using autotools, but had to use
apr-1.2.8 & apr-utils-1.2.8 instead of 1.2.7.

so I commented out run-unittest from the build file, and got a
successful build.

I believe all the tests involve abnormal cases (bad pattern
specifiers) and I do not know of any report of bad behavior on
log4cxx using VC6 in normal cases.
