Sam, I should remind you that a principal goal of making log4j JMX accessible would be to allow management software to control logging according to a well defined (and hopefully accepted) standard. As for dynamically configuring log4j, this can already be done with existing configurators (both DOM and Properties). Check out the configureAndWatch methods. Methods also exist for programmatically changing a configuration.
