Hi Paul,
ApacheCon was a good experience as I got to meet many of the Jakarta people face to
face. There were three presentations by Craig McClanahan (the Tomcat lead) on Tomcat
3.x and the upcoming 4.0. He is considering using log4j as Tomcat's logging mechanism
although I think that the servlet logging API is just too primitive so it is not clear
how much sense moving Tomcat to log4j would have.
Tomcat is a really important component, probably the most important and popular Java
application today. As such, I am studying best ways of integrating Tomcat with log4j.
Your comments are most welcome on this front.
It was also very interesting to see logging problems raised at the Apache httpd level
where logging seems to be a big issue or a nightmare as some people call it.
All in all a worthwhile conference to attend although I was really hard hit by the jet
lag. Cheers, Ceki
