Thanks Glenn. The results of the JavaWorld selection is certainly good news although
we probably were plain lucky. There are other very useful tools out there and in
particular in the Jakarta project. Ant comes to mind.
I keep saying we and us because log4j is the result of a collective effort. Mathias
Boagert is doing much needed but thankless house keeping work as well as contributing
enhancements. Anders Kristensen rewrote large chunks of log4j to use JavaBeans style
of configuration, resulting in smaller and better code although we had to keep old
code for backward compatibility. Paul Glezen keeps reminding us of the pitfalls in
deploying log4j in the "real" world. Just as importantly, hundreds of users keep
making suggestions, supplying patches, finding subtle and not so subtle bugs. I just
love it even if it is not easy to separate the wheat from the chaff.
By the way, log4j is just a finalist. There is *at least* 66% chance that it will not
