Isn't the NameSpace all about this?? DOCTYPE is outdated, and should be
discontinued, IMO.

Having top-element;

<log4j:eventSet  xmlns="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/2002/1"; >

will not interfere with

<log4j:eventSet  xmlns="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/2002/2"; >

nor

<log4j:futureEventSet  xmlns="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/2005/1"; >

In fact, a particularly good parser (such as XSLT) would allow you to mix and
match every single tag inside as well, but let's not get into that.
The parser can then read the document straight up, determine the name space,
and delegate the disection of the document to the class that handles that
particular version.

Am I missing something here?
