Possible choices are:

active versus emeritus
active versus retired
active versus inactive

Emeritus is similar to retired except it is more distinguished.

    emeritus (adjective):

    Retired but retaining an honorary title corresponding to that held
    immediately before retirement: a professor emeritus.
