Thanks for you offer for help. It is much appreciated. I have asked on several occasions for volunteers to work on log4j's JMX support. See http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?t=102391042300002&r=1&w=2 The current JMX support in log4j requires testing and better documentation but it contains some imho good ideas nonetheless. For example, in can manage any appender or layout, even those that are not part of log4j. If you find the code too cryptic, then I can write a short functional spec to explain things more clearly. Just let me know. (If you think the existing JMX code is a pile of crap don't hesitate say so.)
