--- Comment #4 from Mathieu Rozieres <[email protected]> 2009-01-29 02:43:34 PST --- Using Pattern conversion to add 'tag:' at the start of syslog message don't really works. In fact, this works for message not too long. The syslog appender slice the message sent to the server and thus, while using the Pattern conversion, the 'tag' or 'identity' is only present on the 1st message and the following ones have an empty 'tag/identifty'! Here is a example scenario : Log a large message ( for example 1024 x 10 'A' chars ) with PatternConversion set to something really simple: "tag: %m%n" for example. The result on the syslog server will be : 1st Message : Jan 29 00:00:00 127.0.0.1 tag: AAAAAAAAAAA[...]AAA... 2nd Message : Jan 29 00:00:00 127.0.0.1 ...AAAAAAAAAAA[...]AAA... [...] Jan 29 00:00:00 127.0.0.1 ...AAAAAAAAAAA[...]AAA... 10th Message : Jan 29 00:00:00 127.0.0.1 ...AAAAAAAAAAA[...]AAA In fact, you cannont totally rely on the PatternConversion to tag your syslog message if you can't assert that the log message length < syslog message slice length. In conclusion, i think that this enhancement is needed for "very long message" logging scenario. +1 for this evol -- Configure bugmail: https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
