I've cleaned up the test code and have been able to complete "mvn test" with current Sun, gcj, openjdk, and Apache Harmony JDK's on Linux. Haven't tested Oracle, IBM or tested with earlier JDK's on this iteration.
If you have a favorite JDK that is not represented, please give it a whirl and if there is a problem let the list know.
