Go ahead and create a Jira issue.  

I have a enhancement to the Flume Appender that I have to do for $work but 
after I get that complete I plan to look at the defects.  I really want to look 
at the async stuff Remko did and I know there are a few bugs reported that 
should be easy fixes.  And I need to help Scott with his plugin.
