Remko Popma commented on LOG4J2-695: ------------------------------------ Couple other things I noticed: * Is it a good idea to use RollingFileAppender for this test? The rollover threshold is 25MB so there may be multiple rollovers during each test. Better to use normal File appender or RandomAccessFile. * There is no warmup before measurements, so of the three tests that use log4j2, the first one will be slower as Hotspot will do optimization when it finds out what methods are "hot". ** Try switching the tests around (for example, 1. log4j2CustomRaw, 2. log4j2Raw, 3. log4jCustom, 4. log4j2Custom) to see if/how the numbers change. * Take a look at JMH to create performance tests instead (http://openjdk.java.net/projects/code-tools/jmh/). The site has good examples.
