[~bruce.brouwer] So far, we've taken the view that the log4j-api module is 100%
BC within 2.x. It sounds like you want to loosen that to say, yes, we are BC
for call sites, but all bets are off for implementors of interfaces, which is
'OK' since we are the main implementors, as far as we can tell.
I am usually a pretty aggressive fellow when it comes to updating things but I
am worried that we might upset some folks here...
