I think you're looking for the org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout javadoc.

I'm trying to find the log4j JavaDoc that explains all the conversion
characters.  It explains how to left pad, right pad, truncating, what the
various conversion letters are (i.e., %c, %t, %p).  It gives the definition
of what each conversion character will output.  Luckily, I have it scratched
down on paper, but I need to look at the JavaDoc again and can't remember
which one it is!
