In the XML config file this works fine:

     <logger name="com.infineon.apla.AplaAction"
             additivity="false" >
         <level value="info" />
         <appender-ref ref="stdout"/>
     </logger>

where additivity is an attribute of logger, and in the log4j.dtd
category is the same as logger, having additivity as an attribute, so
I'd say yes, it would work.
