As I suspected :(
The version of chainsaw shipped with 1.2.8 of log4j is **not** version 2
Please advise as how I can download this version as a zipped release ?

I had no idea that Chainsaw Version 2 came as part of the log4j 1.2.8
distribution.

I don�t know the version you are looking for, but you should try:

(look in the .\lib\dist\log4jXXX.jar ther you find
org.apache.log4j.chainsaw)
But if you only want chainsaw try:
