I currently work primarly under macos. I have extened the PatternLayout and it is working. If it the code is cleaned I will post it to this list (tomorrow I think). For Windows XP i think you only have to set device=%systemroot%\system32\ansi.sys in the config.sys (or config.dos). Or you look for example here.
