Second problem (verbose error message) has been fixed in log4j 1.3
Looks like mixing 1.2.8 client and 1.3 server is a bad idea...
Still need update on LocationInfo with SocketAppender ....

You are mixing 1.2.8 and 1.3 on the client and server side? This won't
work.

This was supposed to be fixed in 1.3.
