Ok I know there is no way with SMMTP to guarantee that there was an e-mail sent... But with this error handler I will be able at least to detect whther at least the SMTP server was down?
Bassically... I mistakenly mispelled the SMTP host and I wasn't getting my e-mails and nothing was being loged in the console or log files!
Log4j's internal logging, added in version 1.3 will help.
