My company is trying to make the product more scalable. We are using Apache Soap right now. So, we are considering migrating from Soap to Axis as one of the important sources to enhance the scalability/performance of the product.

Can anyone provide (or refer to) any application implemented in Axis and also in Soap, which can be used to compare performances of both?

There may be some people on this list who could answer the question, but it is the wrong forum. The question would be more appropriate on one of the Webservices mailing lists, or better yet look in the archives for soap-user or axis-user. Please do not continue this thread on log4j-user.

From the SOAP FAQ: http://ws.apache.org/soap/faq/faq_chawke.html

2.42Will Apache SOAP support JAXM when it's ready?
There are no plans at present to support JAXM (http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxm/) in Apache SOAP. However, there are plans to provide JAXM support in Axis (http://ws.apache.org/axis/).

2.43Will Apache SOAP support JAX-RPC?
There are no plans at present to support JAX-RPC (http://java.sun.com/xml/jaxrpc/) in Apache SOAP. However, the Axis (http://ws.apache.org/axis/) developers report that Axis is already moving towards full compliance with the current JAX-RPC draft spec.

5.20Does Apache SOAP use SAX or DOM for parsing/representation of XML?
Apache SOAP uses DOM. Axis, the next generation of Apache SOAP, is based on SAX (and performs significantly better as a result). See here for more information: http://ws.apache.org/axis/.
