Thanks, yes. I am using 1.2.8 .... However, when I run
java -classpath ./log4j-1.2.8.jar org.apache.log4j.chainsaw.Main
from the directory with the LOG4J jar, its hangs and I never see any UI,
only....
The new version manually download instead of JNLP also shows the same using
JRE 1.4.2_02?
I would like to have chainsaw show a log file published via a LOG4J socket
appender....

The log4j 1.2.x releases still contain Chainsaw.
Chainsaw V2 has moved to its own module (logging-chainsaw) and relies on
the CVS HEAD of the logging-log4j module.
log4j's ant script used to have helper targets that built Chainsaw. Once
Chainsaw moved to its own module, these targets were removed (since you can
build Chainsaw using its own build script).
You can use this ant script (ant -f install-chainsaw.xml) to automatically
retrieve the required dependencies and build chainsaw. The ant script will
tell you what manual steps are required:

I have attempted to follow the instructions to download, build, configure,
Chainsaw version 2. They do not work at all, as, for example,

Is there a binary distribution of this? Is version 1 hanging around
