Hi, I am using Websphere to deploy my enterprise application. I put my log4j.xml file in WAS_HOME/properties directory and it works fine. I don't know whether this is a correct way but this issue is more serious for an ear that for a war.

If it finds one of them, then it uses it to configure itself (with the proper configurator). There are schemes for initializing log4j in a web application if you have a different name for your file or want it to live in a different place.
