FYI, events received by the 'receiver' framework used by Chainsaw are actually
posted to the log4j framework - which means they can be processed by appenders.

This means you could write a 'SoundAppender' that just played a sound whenever
an event was appended to it, and add a filter to the SoundAppender (maybe
ExpressionFilter), which would give you control over when the SoundAppender
played its sound.

It sounds weird to have Chainsaw's configuration include an appender, but
anything received by a receiver can be processed by registered appenders.

The log4j-dev mailing list is the best place to go to discuss Chainsaw
development.

i'd like to both options - one where it would flash, another where it made
some sound (a .wav file) you can select as not to offend paul's director ;)

by the way, is there an ETA on when you expect the rule set to be implemented.
when i try set a under defined rule - i see it is not yet implemented.

paul, are you saying to can add the the sound option to chainsaw - can you
explain how. we can discuss it out of this forum if this is not the place for
such detailed discussions.

thanks

rakesh
