And all the running threads are contained in one process? Asynchronous appenders are anything that has it's own thread to manage the file IO, so that the calling thread is not blocked waiting for the disk write.
What appenders specifically are you using and how are you calling them? So, I guess we are not using the asynchronous appenders.
