I'm not sure what your first sentence means - do you mean the 'configuration URL' field in Chainsaw to auto-load receivers? If that's the case (and you really are using a .properties file), somethings wrong because JoranConfigurator is used to parse log4j XML-formatted configuration files.
Try using an XML-based configuration file in the configuration URL box instead. the plugins directory log entry is a warning letting you know that you won't be able to load dependent jars used by some receivers (JDBC drivers, JMS, etc).
